Bad News

So I took Sas to the vet and she has lost 4 pounds. This is not good. She is supposed to be gaining weight, not loosing it. The vet is happy with the food I have her on and states that I am feeding her plenty it just seems that her body is unable to absorb any nutrients. Even though I thought she looked like she was gaining weight, she really is just skin and bones. In the sun light you can see her ribs through her fur. She is happy though, and is drinking and eating as much as she can.

The vet thought it would be a good idea to xray her but because she has virtually no body fat he had nothing to contrast the picture to. See below:

I guess that is her heart, her stomach and her intestines. We go back this next Friday for a bile acids test. This is the last test that we can really afford to do. The vet says we can try steroids but it might not help and if it does do I really want to have Sas on steroids for the rest of her life? Wil is not optimistic. Honestly, we might end up having to put my lil one to sleep.

Off to the Vet

While Sassy has been doing wonderfully on Natural Balance venison and sweet potato on Tuesday she didn't want to eat and reverted back to her "strawberry jelly" bowel movements. While it is emotionally painful for me to see her in this way, I can't even begin to understand the discomfort she must have as she tries to go to the bathroom. She seems better today, last night as well as this morning she had a normal solid poo, but I am taking her to the vet anyway. I'd like to see if I can get a refillable script for metronidozle that I can use with pet meds for when she has flares up so I don't have to keep dragging her to the vet. Or maybe at least he can just have me call his office and they will provide me with some. I'm still new to the world of dog medicine and how it all works.
As I said, Sassy seems to be doing better. However, I believe I have found the cause of her flare up and am anticipating another one soon, if not later today. Recently, Sas has been waking me up around 6am. I've been getting up and taking her outside and because I don't want her to wake the whole house I usually stay up after that. This morning I decided to relax on the couch with my laptop. Not ten minutes went by before I heard a plastic rustling sound from the kitchen. When I go to investigate, I find the nubbie end of my pup sticking out of the trash bag. I'm not sure how much or even what Sas ate but I suppose I will find out if she ends up with a sick tummy and intestines later. For now she is curled up at my feet like a true velcro dog, content that since I am awake and not walking around she is free to sleep without concern.
